Damage to tabletops is a common problem after years of use. Here are some things you can do to restore it.

1. Sand the damaged area with fine sandpaper and if possible, an orbal sander. Stay with the grain and then wipe the surface with a tack cloth.

2. To match the old stain, work with a piece of wood that you can remove from under the table that doesn't show. Stain it and let it dry. If you can't get a good match, try mixing a couple of stains.

3. Finish with a coat of polyurethane to protect your work.
